Love in Leadership: Spotlight on Donna Logan
At the St. Joseph Fund (SJF), our board members embody the values that guide us, bringing their diverse experiences and deep connections to our commitment to care for our dear neighbors without distinction. Meet Donna Logan, Vice-Chair of the Providence St. Joseph Health and Services Alaska Region Board and Providence Anchorage Cancer Center Advisory Council member. This month, we sit down with Donna to discover how her commitment to service and the missions of Providence and SJF led her to our board.
At SJF, we are deeply grateful for her leadership, which ensures that our work remains aligned with our values and purpose: to ensure communities are lively, hopeful, healthy, and just.
What inspired you to join the St. Joseph Fund Board?
I was invited to join SJF’s board soon after the Providence and St. Joseph Health’s merger. I didn’t hesitate to accept the invitation. Even though I wasn’t sure how deep my commitment and impact could be, I was excited to learn more about St. Joseph’s and SJF. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of being on the Providence Alaska Foundation board and currently sit on our Ministry and regional boards.
I was particularly interested in the challenge of reimagining SJF with the merger. I enjoyed learning and serving and knew this would be an excellent opportunity to do both.
What is one thing the St. Joseph Fund has accomplished during your tenure on the board?
Because of the structural changes with the merger, I knew there would be much work to do with SJF. As I learned more about the legacy and work of the Sisters of St. Joseph, I was inspired and ready to roll up my sleeves and tackle the work that needed to be done.
Honoring the past and the legacy of the Sisters while expanding SJF’s footprint to include Providence requires reflection and commitment. And the leadership is well-positioned to do so.
What’s one thing you hope we can accomplish or continue within the next year?
I am very optimistic about SJF’s future and the strategic role it can play within the communities Providence serves. Expanding that footprint has its challenges as SJF and its staff get to know Providence’s broader communities. I’m very excited about their work and know they are working to develop new relationships to increase their capacity-building impact.
When I joined, I didn’t know anyone on the board. They were from other parts of the United States, where I didn’t have a network. I have found getting to know others, learning about their experiences, and understanding their strategic thinking very fulfilling. They are all incredibly thoughtful, talented, and experienced. I love being in the same room with them.
SJF has given us good opportunities to come together, and I look forward to more. It’s gratifying to sit in a room with really smart people, learn from their experiences, and listen to their valuable perspectives. They ask excellent questions and are mission-driven, which is essential for the work. I feel valued by them, too. We are all people who care about the work of SJF.
Thank you, Donna, for sharing your reflections with us. We are grateful for your dedication to your community and the communities SJF serves. To meet more of our outstanding board members, follow us on LinkedIn or sign up for Rooted In Love.
