Why Do We Prioritize Equity?

Guest Post – Gabriela Robles, Chief Mission Integration Officer, South Division, and Chief Executive, St. Joseph Fund

Our prioritization of equity is a call to action based on an unyielding belief in human potential. At its heart, equity is about seeing people fully, listening to their stories, recognizing their inherent worth, and acting with conviction to ensure everyone has the tools, resources, and opportunities to thrive.

Equity begins with a desire to meet with individuals and communities to hear their challenges and dreams. It’s about looking beyond numbers to the lives behind them. Equity compels us to lean into discomfort, ask why some neighborhoods flourish while others are left behind, and acknowledge that the systems in place often perpetuate these gaps.

In our partnerships, equity is a shared promise. It’s reflected in our dedication to level playing fields and amplify historically silenced voices. It’s seen in our partners’ stories and witnessed in the impact our leaders make for their communities. When working towards equity, we honor the ideal that others can dream of and achieve without unnecessary barriers.

Equity guides us to act intentionally and is woven into SJF’s four pillars. Above all, equity is a commitment rooted in love and action. It’s standing alongside our partners with humility, courage, and a belief that we are stronger together. It’s about building a world where every individual is valued and every community can rise. When we embrace equity, we honor the humanity in us all and create a foundation of hope for generations to come.

The path ahead is challenging but united in love and purpose, we can achieve remarkable change.
