Year-End Reflection

Year-End Reflection

Guest Post, Gabriela Robles, Chief Mission Integration Officer, South Division, and Chief Executive, St. Joseph Fund

As the year closes, I want to express our gratitude for the support and collaboration that fuel the St. Joseph Fund’s mission to build resilient, thriving communities. Our partnerships have been instrumental in driving meaningful change, especially for those most in need. Your commitment has empowered us to strengthen proactive compassion and community-driven healing initiatives.

This year has seen significant achievements in our efforts:

  • Disaster Response and Resilience – Our proactive approach allowed our partners to respond effectively to impacted areas. We saw this in action during the devastating Atlantic Hurricane season, where we were ready to respond before the storms hit. Catholic Charities USA immediately deployed Disaster Case Managers for on-site and virtual support, delivering essential relief supplies like solar lights, water, hygiene kits, and baby supplies. The Center for Disaster Philanthropy provided local resources for rebuilding, case management, and legal support while guiding donors to make strategic, equitable contributions to strengthen community resilience.
  • Lifelong Education that Opens Doors – This year, this initiative focused primarily on Black and Indigenous birth justice. We were fortunate to travel to visit with our partners, Western Montana – Area Health Education Center staff and community leaders working to form a Native American Maternal Health Community Advisory Board, comprised of mothers, professionals, “aunties,” leaders, Indigenous Doulas, and policy advocates.
  • Community Healing and Resilience – We gathered with representatives from our Healing Tides: Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander Leadership + Renewal Initiative. The convening gave leaders a safe environment to recognize and understand the history of their community’s trauma, strengthen bonds with others through shared experiences, participate in community-building activities, and work on the skills needed to cope with future challenges to integrate cultural preservation.
  • Positive Change through Community Power – Earlier this summer, we spent the day in Anchorage with the Alaska Literacy Program and several community-based organizations to witness their efforts to positively impact their areas and better understand their challenges. The trip showed how advocacy and organizing build healthy and strong communities through this first iteration of our Intersections initiative outside of California.

We look forward to deepening our efforts to support healing that empowers individuals and communities with hope and love. Thank you for walking alongside us as we work toward a world where every person is valued, cared for, and treated equitably.
